SANTA FE MPO TEEN & PRE-TEEN MOBILITY PLAN

Transportation planning based on the needs and perceptions of young travelers.

This first-of-its-kind study looked specifically at how teens and youth travel around the Santa Fe region. In close coordination with Santa Fe MPO staff, the goal of the plan was to understand the perceptions, barriers, and physical limitations that affect teen mode choices in order to increase youth mobility.

The plan was developed through the evaluation of the existing transportation system using GIS, as well as through focus groups and a survey distributed to teens around Santa Fe. The final plan included the development of thirteen mobility indicators that are tied directly to those factors that affect teen travel choices. These indicators, along with a series of recommendations, maps, and supporting research, provide a series of attainable targets that will help the MPO invest and advocate for future transit, bike, and pedestrian improvements. Work was performed while employed at Sites Southwest.
