I Cast You Off

I cast you off
Because I love you
And I want the world to open,
And show you
Just how beautiful you are.

I cast you off
Because we are on different journeys
Across the landscapes of our minds—
Hurtling around the sun,
Shared, but apart.

I cast you off
Because nothing is black or white
And nothing stays the same—
Impermanence flows
Across the universe.

I cast you off
Because we are both embodied
And unbound freedom,
Seeking the edge of the
Present moment.

I cast you off
Because nothing should have been different
Or happened another way—
You were perfect from the moment I met you,
And so was I.

James

A recovering urban planner, philosophy major, and self-admitted weirdo. I can’t spell and don’t talk very well, but have an advanced A.I. clean up after me.
